Ukraine will chair the International Grains Council for the first time

Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Taras Kachka was elected chairperson of the International Grains Council for 2021/2022.

The press service of the Ministry of Economy reported this on Facebook.

It is noted that on June 7, during the meeting of the 53rd session of the IGC, Kachka was "proclaimed the head of the International Grains Council for 2021/2022."

"Ukraine joined the council in 1998, and on July 6, 2010, became a full member exporter, but for the first time, it'll chair this organization," the ministry added.

The presidency will begin on July 1, 2021, and will last until June 30, 2022.

"Grain production and trade is not only one of Ukraine's strengths in the context of world trade, but also is the basis of a balanced food system, which should reflect the contribution of production, infrastructure, climate and social standards and guidelines for integration into global food systems.

I hope that the chairmanship in the council will give Ukraine an opportunity to widely declare its position as a significant player in the foreign market and make efforts to develop the global grain market, taking into account the existing challenges," Taras Kachka said.

The International Grains Council is an international intergovernmental organization that administers the only existing international grain treaty, the 1995 Grains Trade Convention.
