Rada expects Zelenskyi’s draft law on oligarchs at the end of the week

The draft law on de-oligarchization announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, which has recently caused a lot of noise and rumors, is expected in the Verkhovna Rada at the end of this week.

Olha Vasilevska-Smahliuk, a People's Deputy from the "Servant of the People" party, announced this on Wednesday, June 2, UNN reports.

"Journalists are storming the question of the law on de-oligarchization. The key thing that interests us: who? what? where? when and how? According to my information, the President will introduce the draft law at the end of the week," said Olha Vasilevska-Smahliuk, who heads the subcommittee on issues of functioning of payment and information systems and prevention of legalization (laundering) of proceeds from the crime of the Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy," she said.

She also explained the basic concepts of legislative initiative.

"An oligarch will be a person who also has big business, controls the media, and influences officials and deputies. The status of an 'oligarch' will impose certain responsibilities on a person: for example, perhaps, reporting to anti-corruption bodies. To exit the status, the oligarch will say goodbye to two of the three assets: control over government officials and the media," said the people's deputy.
