Ukraine closes airspace for Belarusian airlines

Ukraine closes airspace for Belarusian airlines. The ban takes effect from 00:00 on May 29.

The Cabinet of Ministers has given a corresponding protocol order to the Ministry of Infrastructure and UkSATSE, Interfax-Ukraine, and RBC-Ukraine report, citing their own sources in the government.

"They instructed to establish a ban on the use of Ukrainian airspace by aircraft registered in the Republic of Belarus from 00:00 on May 29," the source said.

This means that Belarusian planes won't be able to land at Ukrainian airports and fly over Ukraine in transit.

Since May 26, Ukraine has suspended flights to Belarus. Ukrainian planes and airlines are prohibited from flying in the airspace of Belarus. The State Border Guard Service has been instructed to stop the registration of passengers traveling from Belarus or to Belarus at airport customs checkpoints.

This is how the government reacted to the detention of Roman Protasevich, a co-founder of the Belarusian opposition Telegram channels.

As reported by Rubryka, today it became known that the ban on flights in its airspace by Belarusian air carriers was imposed by the Estonian government.

Earlier, Latvia, Sweden, Great Britain, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Finland have banned Belavia flights.
