Medvedchuk left under house arrest

The Kyiv Court of Appeals has considered an appeal against the round-the-clock house arrest of Viktor Medvedchuk. The verdict of the first instance court on round-the-clock house arrest remains in force.

The judge announced his decision at today's hearing.

According to the ruling of the Court of Appeals, Medvedchuk will continue to be under 24-hour house arrest. This decision is not subject to appeal.

Prosecutors requested a precautionary measure in the form of detention with the alternative of bail of UAH 300 million. The politician's lawyers wanted the arrest lifted.

After the hearing, Medvedchuk stated that he was not satisfied with the court's decision.

"In our opinion, a decision should've been made to lift the precautionary measure against me. The fight against unfounded accusations in the notice of suspicion against me will continue. We will do everything to prove the unfoundedness, bias, and proximity of the evidence presented today at the court hearing," Medvedchuk said.

He was left under house arrest until July 9.

To recap, on May 12, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova signed a notice of suspicion under Art. 111 (treason) of the Criminal Code. She also signed the suspicion of another deputy from OPZZH Dmytro Kozak.

Meanwhile, Medvedchuk's bodyguards didn't let SBU into the building and didn't allow investigators to hand over the notice.

It's currently known that Taras Kozak is in Russia.

At present, Viktor Medvedchuk is under 24-hour house arrest.

Today the Kyiv Court of Appeals considered the appeals of the prosecutor's office and the defense of the People's Deputy Viktor Medvedchuk against the precautionary measure chosen for the People's Deputy by the court of the first instance.
