Rally to support Sternenko: Cabinet expects a legal assessment of protesters' actions from Ministry of Internal Affairs and SBU
The Cabinet of Ministers expects the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service of Ukraine to provide a legal assessment of the illegal actions that took place under the Office of the President of Ukraine on March 20.
This is stated in a statement on the Government portal.
"The Constitution of Ukraine guarantees the right of citizens to peaceful assembly and demonstration. This right is one of the pillars of modern representative democracy. At the same time, members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine denounces vandalism and abuse of state symbols during protests," the government said in a joint statement.
"The illegal actions that took place under the Office of the President on March 20 are unacceptable and contradict the European values enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine. The government calls on all citizens to refrain from such actions and exercise their rights only peacefully," the statement said.
Members of the Cabinet of Ministers expect the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service of Ukraine to investigate the events of March 20 and provide them with an appropriate legal assessment.
Avakov's Office called Poroshenko responsible for the "provocation under the President's Office."
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the police had launched criminal proceedings against the participants of the rally in support of Sternenko.
The President's Office estimates the damage at least 2 million hryvnias.
To recap, after the rally on Bankova Street, the pro-presidential parliamentary faction "Servant of the People" decided to initiate an extraordinary sitting of the Verkhovna Rada. Today it became known that this meeting might take place on March 25.
