Shmyhal met with German Foreign Minister

On Friday, March 19, during a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Heiko Maas.

The Government portal reports.

The parties discussed Ukraine's European integration, the NATO Membership Action Plan, and joint economic projects in renewable energy.

"Ukraine's membership in the EU in the medium term is a win-win situation not only for the Ukrainian people but also for Germany and the EU as a whole. At present, one of our primary goals is gradual integration into the EU internal market. It also includes digital and energy markets of the European Union," Denys Shmyhal said.

Prime Minister stressed that an agreement on launching a strategic partnership with the EU in critical raw materials was very important for Ukraine, which would also be consistent with the goals of the "green" and digital transition.

"Cooperation in hydrogen energy opens new opportunities for cooperation between our countries. The EU's Hydrogen Strategy states that Ukraine has the potential to install 10 GW of green hydrogen production capacity. It allows attracting up to 20 billion euros in the industry's development. And we're confident that together with Germany, we can best realize this potential," Prime Minister said.

"Today, we've stepped up the reform process to receive an invitation and join the NATO Membership Action Plan as a next step. We'll be grateful to our German partners for their support and assistance on this path," he said.

Ukrainian Prime Minister also thanked Germany and personally the German Foreign Minister for their continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russian aggression. Denys Shmyhal called on Germany to take part in the international platform for the de-occupation of Crimea and thanked the German Foreign Minister for the strong statement of the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven that the occupation of Crimea would never be recognized by the international community.
