"Shevchenko is our superstar": Zelenskyi commented on Kobzar's birthday

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi commented on Taras Shevchenko's birthday.

He posted the relevant post on Facebook.

"Today is 207 years since the birth of Taras Shevchenko. A great poet, a brilliant writer, an outstanding artist. A great Ukrainian.

The feed contains many photos with "Kobzar" on the table, many quotes from Shevchenko, decorated with wheat ears, or a sprig of viburnum. But, in my opinion, Taras Shevchenko is much deeper, more global, more fundamental. And for those who haven't done it yet, it's time to realize the real scale of his figure. Extraordinary, bright, multifaceted, and much wider than the clichéd peasant image of an old grandfather in a fur coat.

Because Shevchenko is an inflammatory mixture of energy, spirit, struggle, and drive. His work is both classic and mainstream at the same time. And his words motivate, inspire, and harden more than one generation of Ukrainians.

Shevchenko is our superstar. Known around the world but special to each of us. Where Shevchenko is, there's Ukraine.

Let's not just be proud of our genius, but also move beyond the amount of knowledge we received in school lessons, and discover the fullness of his personality.

Happy birthday, always modern and cool, Taras Shevchenko!" Zelenskyi wrote.

He also noted that this year's Shevchenko Prize would be awarded not on the traditional Shevchenko Days, but on May 20, 2021, on the 60th anniversary of the award.
