The third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has begun in Ukraine, which could lead to another lockdown.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated this at a press conference, UP reports.

According to him, "red" zones have already been introduced in several regions. "It's already obvious that the third wave of the pandemic has started. Very strict restrictions have already been imposed in the Ivano-Frankivsk region and Chernivtsi region. Several more regions are on the way," the prime minister said.

He noted that the current situation is close to critical in several other western regions and Kyiv.

"If the situation worsens, if we see that the medical field isn't working, then we'll probably have no choice but to impose strict quarantine of the type we've already experienced. I wouldn't like that very much," Shmyhal said.

Prime Minister noted that as soon as most of the regions have moved to the "red" zone of epidemiological danger, they'll most likely have to return to introducing lockdown.

"One shouldn't entertain the illusion that the vaccine will save everyone," he said.

Prime Minister also expects the possibility of the beginning of the fourth and fifth waves of the pandemic.
