Ukraine and Poland appeal to Biden to stop construction of Nord Stream-2

The heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Poland appealed to US President Joe Biden to stop the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

Their appeal was published in Politico.

The statement said they were heard in the US Congress, which insisted on measures to stop the pipeline.

"We urge US President Joe Biden to use all means at his disposal to prevent the project from being completed," the diplomats said.

Ukraine and Poland warn against completing the construction of the pipeline. The statement said the West "cannot afford to back down in the face of blackmail that contradicts everything we stand for."

"If the project is successful, Russia can try to convince the Ukrainian public that the West is indifferent to its own principles and, ultimately, to the security and prosperity of Ukraine," foreign ministers said.

Speaking about Germany's support for the project, they said they respected Berlin's right to express its views.
