OPZZH adopts a resolution initiating Zelenskyi's impeachment
The Opposition Platform – for Life (OPZZH) political party initiated the impeachment of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi with the wording "for gross and systematic violations of the Constitution and legislation of Ukraine."
The relevant resolution was published on the website of the political party. The decision was made at the XXIV Congress of the OPZZH, which took place on Thursday, February 4.
The document states its delegates condemn "unconstitutional and illegal actions" of Zelenskyi, who imposed personal sanctions against the People's Deputy of Ukraine, a member of the party's political council Taras Kozak and blocked the work of three TV channels, i.e. 112 Ukraine, NewsOne, and ZIK, by his decree №43/2021 of February 2, 2021.
"We consider it an attack on democracy, freedom of speech, and an attempt to establish a dictatorship," the resolution said.
The party claims that Zelenskyi violated the Constitution, laws, principles of democracy, and the rule of law.
So, the delegates decided:
- For the parliamentary faction of the OPZZH to initiate the procedure of Zelenskyi's impeachment in the Verkhovna Rada.
- The party's governing bodies should coordinate the necessary resources to protect Kozak, and the rights of the teams of the TV channels, i.e. 112 Ukraine, NewsOne, and ZIK.
- For regional party organizations to start collecting signatures to support Zelenskyi's impeachment.
- Local party organizations should explain the party's position on the impeachment of the president to Ukrainian society.
As reported, Zelenskyi imposed sanctions on Medvedchuk's colleague Kozak and his TV channels for 5 years. Zelenskyi called this decision difficult.
The TV channels announced their "intention to fight for their right to speak for Ukrainians and be on the air."
Besides, the National Security and Defense Council blocked the company, which has 7 private planes, including Kozak's personal plane.
In response, OPZZH stated it was initiating impeachment proceedings against Zelenskyi.
