Ukraine imposes sanctions against Nicaragua
The Verkhovna Rada approved the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions against Nicaragua.
322 people's deputies voted for the draft resolution №4689 "On approving the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of February 1, 2021 'On applying sectoral special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to the Republic of Nicaragua'" with the required minimum of 226 votes.
Sanctions against Nicaragua are caused by the appointment of an "honorary consul" in Russia's annexed Crimea. Last year, the Nicaraguan ambassador to Russia visited Crimea without the consent of Ukraine to present the so-called "honorary consul of Nicaragua to Russia with a residence in Simferopol" Oleg Belaventsev with a consular patent.
As explained by the rapporteur on this issue, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksii Danilov, the Republic of Nicaragua didn't respond to warnings and notes.
As stated in the draft resolution, the list of sanctions is given in the relevant decree of the President of Ukraine, but the text of the decree isn't published on the website of the Head of State.
