Over a ton of heroin uncovered in Lviv
Ukrainian law enforcement officers prevented smuggling a record batch of heroin to EU countries.
The press service of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General reports.
They say that the citizens of Turkey organized the import of drugs to Ukraine from Pakistan in December last year through the Sea Commercial Port "South" (Odesa). Then the "goods" under the guise of food were transported to Western Ukraine to be transported to the European Union as diplomatic cargo.
In order to expose and document the illegal activities of all members of this drug group, they made a decision to monitor the commission of a crime in the form of a controlled supply.
"As a result of the measures taken, special services operatives detained three foreigners in Lviv, according to Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code, during the packing of drugs in rented warehouses. Later, the narcos planned to ship heroin to the EU under the guise of diplomatic cargo. The same day, a Turkish citizen, one of the organizers of drug trafficking, was detained," the SSU reports.
1,034 kg of heroin, valued at over 2.3 billion hryvnias, were seized.
"Within the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 2 of Article 305 (smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogs or precursors) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, investigative actions are underway to establish and prosecute all participants involved in the drug business. Now it's being settled regarding the notification of detainees about suspicion of committing a crime," law enforcement officers say.
