Shmyhal discusses purchasing COVID vaccine and state budget with G7 and EU ambassadors

At a meeting with G7 and EU ambassadors, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal discussed the purchase of a COVID-19 vaccine and current cooperation topics and plans for the next year.

The Government portal reports.

"Ukraine needs access to the vaccine as early as next year, so we can start vaccinating doctors and other groups at risk as soon as possible. We appreciate the efforts of our international partners to help Ukraine provide the population with the right amount of vaccine," Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister noted that Ukraine, together with the World Bank and the European Investment Bank, was working on the possibility of purchasing COVID-19 vaccines. According to him, the proper work is being done at the level of embassies of the United States, Great Britain, Germany, and vaccine companies.

Shmyhal also noted that the most important task of the authorities was to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the economy.

"The government has approved 100 priority investment projects in various fields. We can implement projects by involving investors, in particular on the terms of public-private partnership, international technical assistance, or through loans and the budget. We invite you to take part in privatization auctions and concession tenders in Ukraine," the prime minister said.

Prime Minister and the Ambassadors of the Group of Seven and the European Union also discussed the key parameters of the State Budget for 2021. According to Shmyhal, implementing the budget in the first quarter of next year will provide an opportunity to talk about revising some of its parameters to increase funding for important programs for our country.

"The budget also provides for the creation of a special fund, the funds from which will be allocated for the purchase of coronavirus vaccine," Shmyhal said.
