Stepanov calls on people's deputies to think about medics stating: a fair salary for doctors is 23 thousand
When voting for the 2021 state budget, parliamentarians should keep in mind that without sufficient funding, the medical system will be in jeopardy.
The Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov said this at a briefing.
"Today we'll vote for the draft law on the state budget for 2021. Today we'll understand whether our health is a priority for the people's deputies and whether we value the work of medical workers. Over the past year, we've heard many words of gratitude to health professionals for the struggle they have for our lives every day. I'm very interested in whether they'll implement these words in proper deeds," Stepanov said.
According to him, people are afraid to get sick because they don't know where to get money for treatment, don't do routine examinations in order not to detect any disease, which will then have to be treated.
The head of the Ministry of Health stressed that the situation is that more and more often Ukrainian doctors look at websites that offer work abroad because they know that if they go to work in any European country, they'll receive tens of times higher salary.
Stepanov recalled that now the salary of a doctor is at the level of 9 thousand UAH. The average medical staff receives about 7 thousand UAH, and the junior gets about 5 thousand. According to the Minister, the fair salary should be UAH 23 thousand for doctors, 17 thousand for average medical staff, 12 thousand for the junior.
According to him, medical expenses must meet at least the required minimum. "Our medical staff is our medical army that protects the country. We have to assess their work with dignity… We won't simply need even a thousand modern hospitals if there are no medical workers there. Think about it. This is our reality," Stepanov stressed.
