Klitschko calls on new Kyiv City Council to adopt 2021 budget without populism

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko called on Kyiv City Council deputies to consider the capital's draft budget for 2021.

Klitschko stated this at a meeting of the Kyiv City Council, Ukrinform reports.

"Today, the main issue we need to consider is next year's draft budget. Another challenge we face is that the budget needs to be approved as soon as possible. We only have two weeks left by the end of this year," Klitschko said.

He stressed that the budget would determine how the capital lives and develops next year.

"I ask each of you to work without politics and populism. And we'll finalize and approve a good budget in this difficult situation. Because we see the economic downturn as business barely survives. And these are all revenues that we won't receive in the city budget," the mayor said.

Klitschko noted, for over five years the Kyiv budget has been transparent. Anyone can see online how much revenue the city receives and what the community's funds are spent on.

As reported, Kyiv projected budget for 2021 is 59 billion UAH.

Thus, budget revenues are planned in the amount of UAH 59.2 billion. Compared to the expected budget execution for 2020, they'll increase by 1.3% (UAH 755.2 million).

Budget expenditures are planned in the amount of UAH 56.6 billion. The project also considers repayment of liabilities on external and internal borrowings in the amount of UAH 2.7 billion.
