State to finance free COVID-19 vaccination - Chairperson of Rada committee

In 2021, the state will finance free COVID-19 vaccination of the population, and payment to treat patients with coronavirus disease in hospitals.

Mykhailo Radutskyi, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Public Health, Medical Assistance, and Medical Insurance, wrote about this on Facebook.

"The Ministry of Finance will fulfill three requirements of the Committee on Public Health, for funding the health sector in 2021. First, the state will fully fund the free vaccination of the population from COVID-19. Second, the NHSU receives all necessary funds for payments to medical institutions treating COVID-19 patients. In addition, the Budget Code will maintain the requirement to finance a health guarantee program of at least 5% of GDP," Radutskyi wrote.

He recalled that on December 15 the Verkhovna Rada will begin considering the draft state budget-2021, submitted by the government for the second reading.

Thus, the Committee on Public Health sent proposals to the government, which provided for an increase in expenditures on the medical guarantee program by UAH 102 billion, and additional funding for medicines for patients with cancer and orphan diseases by UAH 7.7 billion. However, according to Radutskyi, they partially listened to the proposals of people's deputies.

To recap, the Ministry of Health has pledged UAH 396 billion in the budget request to finance the healthcare system for 2021, of which UAH 225 billion is the Medical Guarantees Program. However, in the draft budget-2021, which the Cabinet of Ministers submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, the amount of funding for the medical sector is provided at the level of 159 billion UAH.
