Ministry of Health expects January lockdown to reduce incidence by 50%

The Ministry of Health expects to reduce the number of patients by 40-50% with a lockdown in January.

Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov stated this at a briefing.

"Based on mathematical modeling, we predict an increase in the number of patients. We hope it won't grow at a hurricane rate. In addition, the New Year holidays will also give a certain outbreak and increase (in the number of patients – ed.). Another component is that the number of patients with influenza increases from the end of January. It's an additional burden on the medical system. This disease also has complications, including pneumonia. Therefore, all these factors have led to introducing additional quarantine measures from 8 to 24 January. …

We expect a 40-50% reduction in the number of infected people during this period," Stepanov said.

He recalled that on December 9, the government extended the quarantine restrictions on the orange level of epidemic danger throughout the country until February 28, with toughening restrictions for the period from 8 to 24 January.
