Rada reduces registration period for coronavirus vaccines to five days

The Verkhovna Rada approved a law draft as a basis and as a whole speeding up access to the COVID-19 vaccine.

270 people's deputies voted for the law draft №4314.

The law makes it possible to reduce the period of approving clinical trials and registration of vaccines and drugs against COVID-19.

"Approval of clinical trial protocols for drugs to treat coronavirus disease, and vaccines or other medical immunobiological drugs for the specific prevention of COVID-19 and significant amendments to them is carried out within five calendar days," an explanatory note to the law draft reads.

The document will be valid during the quarantine period established by the Cabinet of Ministers because of the coronavirus pandemic.

As noted, attracting clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccines to Ukraine would allow vaccination of a significant part of the Ukrainian population through such trials (according to preliminary estimates, from 30 thousand people).

Therefore, reducing the terms of state registration of COVID-19 vaccines will help to speed up the full-scale use of effective and safe vaccines that have successfully passed the clinical trial in our country.

To recap, earlier parliament committee on public health recommended Rada to support the law draft, which gives the chance to speed up access to a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the chairperson of the parliamentary committee of the Verkhovna Rada Mykhailo Radutskyi, adopting the law draft will reduce the burden on the health care system.
