Weekend quarantine won’t continue – Shmyhal

Weekend quarantine has yielded some results, but the authorities will not prolong it: the country will have orange zone restrictions.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated this at a government meeting on December 2.

"Both on weekends and on weekdays, there will be orange zone quarantine restrictions throughout the country."

Shmyhal reminded that an alternative model of lockdown, weekend quarantine, had been introduced in mid-November. The Prime Minister thanked all those who followed the government's recommendations. Regarding its positive consequences, Shmyhal stated that there were 6,000 fewer cases than expected at the end of November in the previous week.

Intensified measures have somewhat stabilized the situation in hospitals: they see the percentage of bed occupancy equalizing.

According to Shmyhal, the Cabinet of Ministers is currently working on the most balanced solution regarding the possible tightening of quarantine restrictions. The government will notify the decisions 7 days before implementation.

The prime minister said that the authorities had conducted a survey on the optimal quarantine measures among mayors and heads of regional state administrations.

"Heads of cities of regional significance and heads of regional state administrations share a position on a complete ban or introduction of partial restrictions on the activities of holiday fairs."

According to Shmyhal, almost 90% of the interviewed mayors supported a complete ban on concerts.

The installation of a city Christmas tree with several restrictions on attendance is supported by almost 60% of local government representatives.
