Foreign Minister confirmed Markarova's appointment as Ukraine's ambassador to the US

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba confirmed the information about the appointment of Oksana Markarova to the post of Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States.

On his Facebook, he wrote that "we have launched the procedure for her registration, but it traditionally takes some time."

"The current Ambassador of Ukraine to Washington Volodymyr Yelchenko is a classic of Ukrainian diplomacy. There are no claims to his work, but nobody has canceled the rotation principle in diplomacy… After evaluating all the arguments, I suggested Oksana Markarova," Kuleba said.

According to him, if Markarova is appointed, "Ukraine will have an ambassador in Washington for the first time, who is well-known in the US Administration, in particular in the State Department and Ministry of Finance, and IMF."

"The fact of sending Markarova only to shake the IMF money tree is rubbish. The important truth is that Markarovа will be the first female ambassador of Ukraine to the United States in history. These are unconditional advantages," the Foreign Minister added.

"The former and successful Minister of Finance, by definition, cannot be a bad diplomat. There, the position requires to be a diplomat," Kuleba wrote.

Earlier, ZN.UA wrote about Markarova's appointment.

"Andrii Yermak suggested the idea. We need to address IMF issues. There's no money. And Markarova is in good standing with them," the President's Office shared the reasons for the decision.
