Zelenskyi told G7 ambassadors that Sytnyk would remain NABU chairperson

Artem Sytnyk, director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, will remain in office after December 16. Decisions of the Constitutional Court (CCU) and the Kyiv District Administrative Court of (KDAC) will not affect his work in the bureau.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi stated this at a video meeting with G7 ambassadors, the president's website reports.

As reported, the meeting participants discussed the threats facing NABU because of the decision of the Constitutional Court. Zelenskyi noted that recognizing certain provisions of the law on the bureau as unconstitutional doesn't yet create any threats that could affect the legitimacy and independence of NABU.

"The decision of the Constitutional Court doesn't cancel the fact of creation and functioning of NABU, doesn't limit the work of NABU detectives, and doesn't question the status of NABU as a law enforcement agency. We guarantee that after December 16 the NABU director will remain in office," Zelenskyi said.

To recap, considering the lawsuit of the fired NABU employee, the head of the Second Detective Unit of the bureau Oleksandr Kareev, KDAC adopted a separate resolution, which removed Sytnyk from the Unified Register of Information as NABU director.

The court also ruled that Sytnyk must transfer his powers to one of his deputies to enforce the decision of the Constitutional Court. The court set a one-month deadline for enforcing this decision.

In particular, the court explained this decision by the fact that while considering the claim, it revealed non-compliance with the decision of the Constitutional Court to declare the Presidential Decree on the appointment of Sytnyk as the director of NABU unconstitutional.

In turn, Justice Minister Denys Maliuska explained that the Ministry of Justice would not comply with the decision of the District Administrative Court: "The Ministry of Justice cannot amend the Unified State Register to enforce any decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine or a separate ruling."
