Fedir Venislavskyi, the president's representative in the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU), People's Deputy from the Servant of the People party, explained what the worst-case scenario regarding the activity of the CCU after a loud scandal could be.

He stated this on the air of the Ukraine 24 channel.

"The worst-case scenario I am considering is possible if the CCU continues to engage in anti-state activities. Even if we analyze some public statements by some judges about the cases in the CCU, they are already hinting, in fact, blackmailing that they can break the legislative acts adopted by the Verkhovna Rada providing the reform direction of Ukraine's development," he said.

Venislavskyi told how the parliament would react if the CCU continued to resist.

"If we see that there's actual deliberate damage by the CCU, then I think the worst option is to adopt a political and legal ruling, namely the law. Zelenskyi registered the draft law in the Rada. I think if the deputies see that there are enormous threats from the activity of CCU, they will support this draft law," he told.

Earlier, the Committee on Legal Policy offered the parliament to consider the draft law №4311, which proposes to increase the quorum of the Constitutional Court to 17 judges. If they adopt this draft law, the Constitutional Court will be able to make decisions only with almost the entire court composition taking part, which comprises 18 judges. Currently, the Constitutional Court has 15 judges.

To recap, the Association of Judges of the Constitutional Court, which includes retired judges, asks President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to withdraw the law draft №4288 "On Restoration of Public Confidence in Constitutional Proceedings" (which aims to disband the current CCU) and help fill three vacant positions of judges of the Constitutional Court.
