Head of NBU met with World Bank leadership and discussed cooperation priorities

During a meeting with the World Bank leadership, NBU Chairperson Kyrylo Shevchenko stated that maintaining the independence of the National Bank is one of today's priorities.

They note that the meeting was attended by Executive Director of the group including Ukraine, Koen Davidse, World Bank Regional Director for Eastern Europe (Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine) Arup Banerji, and World Bank Vice President for Affairs of Europe and Central Asia region, Anna Bjerde.

"We appreciate the long-term relationship and support that the World Bank Group provides to both the National Bank of Ukraine and Ukraine as a whole. It is very important that our common priority is to strengthen Ukraine's financial sector and lay the foundation for reliable credit development," Shevchenko said.

"Kyrylo Shevchenko noted the joint work with the World Bank to strengthen the financial system of Ukraine.

In particular, joint projects on reforming the public banking sector, the non-banking financial sector ("split"), reforming the national payment system, improving the system of settling insolvent banks, introducing supervisory technologies (SupTech), and reducing the share of non-performing loans in banks," the message reads.

NBU added that the banking sector, with the National Bank's help, intensified its work in this direction this year. In September, the share of problem loans in banks decreased from 48% to 45.6%.
