After Paton: Anatolii Zahorodnyi became President of NASU
Academician Anatolii Zahorodnyi was elected President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU), the press service of the NASU reports.
He is Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences, Director, and Head of the Department of Theory and Modeling of Plasma Processes at the Institute for Theoretical Physics. He is 69 years old and was personally supported by Borys Paton during his lifetime.
The elections took place on October 7. The new president was appointed after a secret ballot. 637 in total took part in the elections. Zahorodnyi won by a significant margin.

Academician Anatolii Zahorodnyi has scientific works in theoretical and mathematical physics, plasma theory, and statistical physics. He developed a statistical theory of spatially limited plasma-molecular systems; a consistent kinetic theory of dusty plasma and also developed strict microscopic equations and a chain of Boholiubov equations for such a plasma; developed the theory of bremsstrahlung in plasma-molecular systems.
