Plane crash in Kharkiv region: Black boxes deciphering has started, which will last up to 5 days

Black boxes from the AN-26 plane that crashed near Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region have been found, and their decoding has already begun.

Deputy Prime Minister and head of the government commission of inquiry, Oleh Uruskyi, announced it on his Facebook page.

"The on-board recorders (black boxes) have been found. They've survived. Their condition is satisfactory. The information on the recorder has been saved. They were seized and on September 27, 2020, aviation experts started decoding under the control of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). The process will take approximately 3-5 days," he stated.

Uruskyi also wrote that the wreckage of the AN-26Sh aircraft was collected and transported to the territory of the A4104 military unit in Chuhuiv, Kharkiv region, where they are under round-the-clock protection by the SBI. "From now on specialists will carry out the maximum salvaging of the plane to its original condition."

"We have established contact with 20 families of the deceased cadets. 17 of them have already arrived in Kharkiv. Some of them are staying in the hotel of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Some are staying with relatives in the city. Now we organized free meals, transport, and escort. The families receive psychological help. Today, September 28, the relatives of the victims will be taken samples for DNA analysis to further identify the bodies," the deputy prime minister added.

To recap, on the evening of September 25, in the Kharkiv region, the AN-26 plane of the Air Forces of Armed Forces of Ukraine crashed at the approach to landing at the airport of Chuhuiv city. There were 27 people on board (20 cadets and 7 officers of the Kharkiv University of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named after Kozhedub). Twenty-five people died at the crash site, and one cadet died at the hospital from burns. One is in treatment.

At the moment, the doctors assess the health of cadet, Viacheslav Zolochevskyi, the only survivor of the September 25 plane crash, as moderate.

The SBI is investigating four versions of the causes of the crash.
