Сourt sentenced the ex-prosecutor to two years in prison for offering a bribe for a position in NABU

The High Anti-Corruption Court sentenced a former prosecutor of the Prosecutor General's Office to two years in prison for offering a bribe for a position in the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

The press service of SAPO (Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office) reports.

On September 25, considering the materials of the criminal proceedings, the panel of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court, found the former prosecutor guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (proposal to provide an official with an illegal benefit for the commission of actions by an official with the use of official position in the interests of the person offering such benefit). 

The situation refers to the ex-prosecutor, Oleksandr Matiushko. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison by a court verdict.

The sentence shall take effect thirty days after its promulgation unless an appeal is lodged.

Until the verdict comes into force, Matiushka will be subject to a precautionary measure in the form of bail applied earlier. The sanction of the incriminated article does not provide for confiscation of property.

The former prosecutor of The Prosecutor General's Office was accused of offering $10,000 of illegal benefit to members of the NABU Competition Committee for a positive decision on employment in the position of head/deputy head of the NABU detective unit.
