Top celebrities supporting Ukraine in 2024: from donations to advocacy

Discover the stars who stood with Ukraine in 2024, raising awareness of Ukraine's fight to preserve its freedom.

Since Russia unleashed its full-scale war against Ukraine, the international community has been adamant in supporting Ukrainians, either through sending military aid or humanitarian aid or raising awareness of the war and advocating for Ukraine. Global stars of film, music, literature, science, and more have also been among the unwavering supporters of Ukrainians, making sure Ukraine is not forgotten and Russian war crimes are known.

Many celebrities, like Star Wars Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, and Hollywood royalty Barbra Streisand, became ambassadors of UNITED24, Ukraine's official fundraising platform that collects money for reconstruction, medical aid, and defense. Many others, like Angelina Jolie, Jessica Chastain, and Ben Stiller, visited the country to talk to locals, show solidarity, and advocate for Ukrainians in need.

In 2024, more famous and influential people joined the "Ukraine Supporter Club" and called on their fans not to turn away from the war and donate to Ukraine. In this article, Rubryka shares the top celebrities who support Ukraine in 2024.

1. Stephen Fry

The legend of British comedy, actor, and writer Stephen Fry has been an avid supporter of Ukraine since he first visited the country last autumn to participate in the Third Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, organized by Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska, to discuss the mental health of Ukrainians amid the war.

After his trip to Ukraine, Mr. Fry publicly expressed his support for Ukrainians in a video message. He called on the international community to pay attention to what was happening in Ukraine and said he had great faith in the Ukrainian people.

Stephen Fry continued using his influence and voice to shine a light on Ukrainian stories. In 2024, he released a new film about Ukraine titled Stephen Fry into Ukraine on his YouTube channel, Planet Fry. The 45-minute documentary was shot during the comedian's visit to Ukraine in September 2023.

In the film, the actor meets many Ukrainians, including injured soldiers, and shows their unbreakable spirit and humor amid the darkest of times. The video also features a link to a fundraiser by a reputable charity organization, Razom for Ukraine, which provides multifaceted support to Ukraine.

2. Madonna

Madonna, one of the most influential women on the planet, has also been vocal about Ukraine and its fight against Russia. Over the two years of Russia's large-scale invasion, she expressed her support for Ukraine on social media. She endorsed Ukrainian fashion designers like Ruslan Baginskiy, whose hats she wore during her concerts and photo shoots.

The legendary pop star also used her recent worldwide tour to remind her fans about Ukrainians and their struggles. Since it kicked off in 2023, Madonna has unfolded the Ukrainian flag on the stage, raising awareness of the war.

In June 2024, the American singer also posted a powerful video showing the devastating aftermath of Russian strikes and the impact on Ukrainian civilians, especially children. With this post, she supported the Global Peace Summit initiated by Ukraine and held in Switzerland on June 15 to discuss ending the war and bringing Russia to justice.

Madonna praised one of the points of Ukraine's Peace Formula about returning over 19,000 Ukrainian children abducted by Russians, separated from their families, and deported to Russia. Madonna called for protecting children worldwide from terror. She stated, "Wherever there is conflict, children suffer…… Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Yemen, Syria, Nigeria, Congo, Malawi……. The list goes on and on. We may not agree on much, but I pray we can all agree that our children need to be protected!"

3. Alyssa Milano

Alyssa Milano, an American actress famous for her role in the cult TV series Charmed, has supported Ukraine since Russia launched its large-scale invasion. In 2022, she posted a video on her social media showing her wearing a blue and yellow T-shirt to help the Legacy of War Foundation raise money for Ukrainians affected by war.

Since May 2024, Milano, as an activist, has been more involved in advocacy for Ukraine, becoming an ambassador of the UNITED24 fundraising platform and helping collect funding for the reconstruction of Ukrainian schools. She stated, "The full-scale war in Ukraine is brutal, vile and barbaric. It has to end — with a just peace and Ukraine's victory. I want Ukrainians to know that I will stand with Ukraine and will support them on this path."

On July 8, 2024, when Russian missiles targeted Kyiv and struck the Okhmatdyt National Children's Hospital, which treats children with cancer and other severe illnesses, Milano raised awareness about the attack on her Instagram, sharing a screenshot of the news report and showing the devastating damage to the hospital. She also included a link in her stories for donations to help those affected.

Jamie Lee Curtis, the Hollywood star of films like Halloween and Everything Everywhere All at Once, first expressed her solidarity with Ukraine in 2022 when she wore a blue ribbon "With Refugees" on the Oscar red carpet. She slammed Russian President Putin, calling him "a laughingstock," and supported Ukrainians forced to flee their country because of the war.

Then she stated, "Right now, [the refugee crisis is] affecting the beautiful people of Ukraine. It has the possibility of becoming much wider and therefore, all of us need to be paying a lot of attention to this aggression."

In 2024, Curtis took to social media to advocate for Ukrainian children and spotlight the Russian war crime — the rocket attack on the Okhmadyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv.

The Oscar winner once again raised awareness of Russia's war against Ukraine by sharing photos of Ukrainian photographer Andrii Dubchak from a medical stabilization point on her Instagram. The images documented the evacuation of wounded Ukrainian soldiers, including one who lost his life despite doctors' efforts to save him. Curtis commented, "WAR IS HELL! INDEPENDENCE IS ALWAYS A BATTLE!"

In 2024, Michael Douglas joined other celebrities and activists to participate in the Fourth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen. He and his son Dylan visited Kyiv and were moved by the spirit and resilience of the Ukrainian people.

In the video he recorded in the Ukrainian capital, Douglas promoted the UNITED24 fundraising platform and called on the international community to donate to Ukraine. He said, "I'll contribute what I leave here to UNITED24, and I hope that you will."

After visiting Ukraine, the Hollywood star recorded a video wearing the UNITED24 T-shirt to once again bring attention to the fundraising platform. He commented, "What Dylan and I took away from this was the people, an incredible spirit. When you think about what's happened to Ukraine, starting from the Stalin regime through World War II and then having to fight and maintain their 30-plus years of democracy, it's an extraordinary place and a great reminder to all of us of the importance of freedom, democracy, and how you've got to work for it."
