Italy supports creation of tribunal for russian war crimes

English version here

Italy supports the creation of a special tribunal for war crimes committed during russia's invasion of Ukraine, says Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

"Killing a defenseless population is a war crime, and we will see how to intervene: if a special tribunal is created, we are not against it," Tajani said, the European Pravda reports, citing Sky24.

He also stated that Italy had never sent weapons to attack russian territory and had never declared war on russia.

"We have a problem with the leadership, not with the people. If the leadership violates the norms of international law, we can only have one position: to condemn law violations, war crimes, violence," Tajani explained.

Earlier, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the European Union was determined to ensure that russia is held accountable for the crime of aggression against Ukraine and to create a tribunal to bring russia to justice.

Previously, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, offered various options for creating a special tribunal to bring the russian leadership to justice, as well as the corresponding assistance of the Council of Europe.
